Lot 1404
A purchase and sale agreement
for Graceland signed by Elvis Presley
Elvis Buys Graceland
The lot includes the actual purchase agreement signed by Elvis
Presley and his parents, Vernon and Gladys Presley, and the seller
Ruth Brown Moore. Dated the 26th day of March, 1957, the document
reads in part, “The parties of the first part (the Presleys)
shall take possession of the property at #3764 U.S. Highway No. 51
South (Graceland) upon delivery of the warranty deed, and said
delivery of the deed shall constitute a full and absolute
relinquishment by the party of the second part." Part of
the document refers to the Donruss Company paying full price for
Elvis’s existing dwelling if “they would have the right to
dismantle the home and use the parts in promoting the sale of
bubblegum or any other product in any way.” Three page legal
folio, matted and framed with pictures of Elvis, his family and
Graceland itself.
Included in the lot is a docket of approximately 50 other pages,
some originals, and some copies, most legal folio concerning the
transfer of the property. One interesting document from Mid-South
Title Company indicates the total Elvis paid for the Graceland
estate was $133,174. An extremely historic and important archive.

Graceland is synonymous with the legend and legacy of the great
pioneering rocker, and no other place or thing is more closely
associated with the great Presley.
